The boys were having a great time drinking their favorite drinks at the Doo Wop Diner (chilled, rich milkshakes with a cherry on top), listening to Elvis at the local bar, and the overwhelming feeling of freedom and independence that their parents could have only dreamed of. This, they thought, this is the American dream. They walked with passion and purpose, having the time of their lives.
They strode downtown to witness the lavish and exotic city that was New York. The bustling, yet charming city was particularly amazing that night. Dennis, the leader of the 4 man entourage, had never seen anything so magnificent.
“I love it down here…” Jimmy, Dennis’ closest friend, murmured with a smirk across his face. A Pepsi bottle bounced onto the street from the ad on top of the only supermarket within 100km, winked at Dennis, and strolled off.
“Rad…” Dennis whispered to himself, as he continued walking down the street whilst fiddling with his ring.
As the night went on, Dennis and his entourage continued to explore what ‘The City that Never Sleeps’ had to offer. Venturing through Time Square, they met back up once again with the Pepsi bottle. “You can just call me Pepsi,” he exclaimed with an exaggerated wink. He showed them around a little, and offered them an ‘exclusive tour’ of the city. The Pepsi showed Dennis and his friends around Time Square and all of its extravaganza. Intricate choreographed dancers, all in red pranced in the street. They found themselves in a melting pot of culture and adventure. The city came alive, and there they were. Just the boys… and Pepsi.
As dawn approached they all found themselves back where they started; the center of the universe. They all sat on the top of the Chrysler building, soaking in all the commotion and buzz that filled and drove the city to what it was.
December 22, 1953, Dennis and his friends were officially declared missing, and hadn’t been seen in days. Though there was little evidence to suggest where the boys might have gone, the police did find a single piece of evidence; Dennis’ ring was found at the entrance of the Pepsi sponsored super market.
Very nice twist at the end, made me curious about what happens next.
