Partition

She was slowly becoming a family phenomenon. Janet was 80 years old and would not part. Constantly pressured by her family to do so, she repetitively refused. Humans did not reproduce, but rather went through reverse metamorphosis. Humans could decide when to split themselves into two copies of each other. These two descendants would both be half the age of the original human and would continue living from that time in life. Some decided to split at an early age and live from then on as two kids. Others chose to split around the age of 36 so they could turn 18 and go through their fun teenage years. Some people would part on their deathbed to have another chance. But Janet did not want to split at all. Special psychologists offered to talk to her but she refused all the offers. She lived alone and no one knew where. No one knew what would happen. The years went on and Janet grew older. Her family started forgetting about her. However, 40 years later, a deliveryman who got the wrong address ended up on Janet’s front porch. He recognized her from a newspaper article from a long time ago. He found her family and informed them of her situation. Scientists got interested in to how she was able to stay alive for such a long time. More time passed and Janet stayed healthy. It was concluded that humans have evolved to live forever. However, Janet stayed silent and never revealed her secret. It's not that she didn't want to split. It's that she couldn't. Janet was not human.
