The Huntsman's Distress

The huntsman has been looking for the princess for days in the dark forest of the kingdom. He saw the last bit of the sun being swallowed into the earth. Another deer jumped right in front of him, another easy target to shoot, but then he remembered that it’s not what he came here to pursue. It was the princess, the princess of the kingdom, the daughter of the king, who was the innocent target he came to slaughter. He had been thinking of his family back home. How the pound of gold could help his family during the draught throughout the village.

As he was walking, he heard something from to bushes coming his way, he hid quickly behind a black oak tree. What walked out was not a deer, wolf, or rabbit but it was the princess herself. As she looked his way, he saw the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Hair red as fire, skin white as pearls, and eyes green as the grass he was standing on. It took a few seconds to absorb her beauty. Now he understood why the queen wanted her dead. He prepared his rifle to shoot slowly and quietly. His fingers crept to the trigger, while nervous sweat dripped down his face. He was thinking to himself, is this really the right thing to do? Is this really the right way to provide for his family’s needs? She looked towards him. He took a step back and hesitated. Then he felt something breathing hard behind him. The huntsman had a feeling he knew what it was. He turned around and surely enough there stood the beast; it was a wild bear. The bear roared with all its might, pressed its hands on the huntsman, and pushed him to the ground. The huntsman had his rifle pushing against the bear’s throat to keep it from biting him, then he heard the princess scream in fear. All of a sudden, the bear took off running towards the princess. The huntsman quickly got up, took his rifle, and aimed at the bear. Then he had a dilemma in his mind; should he do the kind thing or the right thing? The kind thing to do was to shoot the bear and save the princess. Or was right thing to let the bear kill the princess and have his mission completed? He picked up his rifle and aimed at the bear he pulled the trigger to find out the bullets had fallen out of it during the struggle. By the time he loaded his rifle back up it was too late. The bear had reached the princess and all hope was gone. The huntsman turned away from the horrifying image. After a short while he heard the bear walking away. He walked up to the princess’ lifeless body and all that was left was her hair red as fire, skin white as pearls, and eyes green as the grass she was laying on. He couldn’t live with the idea of killing someone to provide for another. Her eyes kept staring at him with the look of horrifying reality. He held the gun up to his head and pulled the trigger.

More of the public lands in the country could be opened to hunting and fishing if the SAFE Act passes.
