Cleats

While they headed to soccer camp, Wayne realized that his dad bought the soccer cleats only for his twin brother. He wasn’t angry. He wasn’t better than David in soccer. That’s why his dad supported his brother and not him. The cleats were very expensive and good. About 20 minutes later, the car arrived to the soccer camp. David was very excited to play soccer at the camp. When they went into the camp, they saw massive fields and a lot of people. There were a few coaches, scouts and a lot of teenagers like them. He was kind of scared and nervous, but he thought that it was an opportunity to learn soccer. After a few minutes, the teenagers had a chance to show how good they were. Usually, he was kind of good at showing skills to people. However, he didn’t do well on it. So he was frustrated about it. Of course, his brother got attention from the coaches and other teenager envied him. After a few tests, the coaches separated them into several groups.  Unluckily, Wayne and David were on the same team. The head coach of the camp said that they were going to have a tournament after a few days of practices. He also said that the players who scored the most goals would receive a special prize. Everyone, especially David was excited about it. In the practice, his coach and his teammates were impressed with his brother’s soccer skill, and started to praise him. He usually didn’t envy his brother. However, somehow his head was stuck with some feeling. It was feeling that he hadn’t experienced for a long time. He thought that his brother was better than him, because of the new cleats. He started to practice harder and harder, so that he could get compliments from other players. However, no one looked or cared about him. First he was very angry, even though he admitted that he couldn’t be better than him. He was so depressed that he stopped practicing. Then the head coach sat down next to him. “ No one cares about you right now.  However, if you continue to practice hard, there will be a moment when everyone will notice and support you. So don’t give up,” the coach said. Wayne’s heart began pumping hard. He had never felt like that way before. He felt like he needed to do something. He got up and started to practice again. A few days later, the tournament has begun. David was the star player of the team, and Wayne was on the bench. His brother scored 5 goals during first game. By the end of the tournament, their team was playing in the finals. They were losing by 1 point, and his brother needed to score one more goal to get a special prize. In 87 minutes, a player from another team tackled his brother. They got an opportunity to score a goal from a free kick. Wayne saw that his brother was walking strangely. He asked the coach to call his brother. When the coach checked the right foot of his brother, it was swelled a lot. His coach asked the referee to substitute David. When Wayne looked at his brother, he was very depressed. Wayne asked his brother for the new cleats. His brother looked at him with curiosity, but handed them to him. When Wayne put on the cleats, he said to his coach that he didn’t need a substitute, and he could play. The ruse worked and after the ball was out of bounds, he turned to the field and prepared for the free kick. He was very nervous about it. He thought about what he practiced. Wayne breathed in, he ran towards the ball, and kicked it with his brother’s cleats. That moment, he didn’t feel that he had kicked ball, but a light cloud. The ball went over the wall of players, and into the top corner of the net. The entire team rushed the field and chanted David, David, David. He was so happy. In the end, their team had won the tournament, and his brother was the player who scored the most goals. His brother went to the head coach and admitted that Wayne scored the last goal. The head coach asked him to join his brother for receiving the special prize. Somehow he felt like he has fulfilled something that he couldn’t have done before. Wayne and David walked into the room to get the special prize.

  3. Nice flash fiction story Yuneil! I really like the happy ending. However, I found a little typo.
"A few days later, the tournament has begun."
It should be "A few days later, the tournament began."
